SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has two main aspects: on-page and off-page. Both require equal attention, and maintaining a balance between them is essential. Here’s what each includes:

On-Page SEO

Onsite SEO, or on-page optimization, includes everything that happens directly on your website and consists of:

  • Page titles – Keywords (the terms users search for in search engines) should be used naturally and should not try to trick the search engine.
  • Meta descriptions – Short, engaging summaries that appear in search results and attract user interest.
  • URLs – Simple, keyword-based addresses that enhance user trust.
  • Content – High-quality, unique, and keyword-optimized content. (It is important to note that Google does not tolerate plagiarism. It has strict rules and closely monitors their enforcement.)
  • Internal links – Links from one page to another, acting as an internal site map that helps Google understand the website's structure.

On-Page SEO

Offsite SEO, or external optimization, refers to optimization that happens outside your website and plays a crucial role in Google's ranking system. In general, links act as recommendations for search engines. These “recommendations” determine where Google ranks your site compared to competitors when displaying search results.

Offsite SEO includes:

  • Link building – The more authoritative websites (such as Forbes, BBC, etc.) mention your site (in a blog post, article, etc.), the more likely Google is to consider your website  trustworthy.
  • Guest posting – Publishing your article on other websites with a backlink to your own. Guest posting benefits both parties: the “host site” gets content, and you gain external optimization.
  • Link structure – Google has decades of experience and a highly sophisticated ranking system. Research shows that it values links embedded in keywords (e.g., "best website development") more than so-called naked URLs like "www.connect.ge."

It’s important to note that not all links are treated equally by Google! A link placed inside an article carries more weight than one posted in a comment section. Many websites disable the ability for Google to track comment links or instruct search engines to ignore them for SEO purposes. These are known as no-follow links, which Google does not count for ranking. Therefore, you should focus on do-follow links, as they are one of the key factors in improving your position in search engine rankings.

Technical SEO

In addition to everything mentioned, it is important to highlight the role and significance of Technical SEO. Technical SEO refers to the process of optimizing a website’s technical aspects to ensure it is easily accessible and understandable for search engines.

Key elements of Technical SEO:

  • Website speed: The loading speed of a website is crucial for both users and search engines. Faster websites tend to rank higher in Google search results.
  • Mobile compatibility: According to Google, the majority of users access search engines via mobile devices. Therefore, ensuring that your website is mobile-friendly is essential.
  • Website structure: A clear and simple website structure helps search engines understand its content more efficiently.
  • Security (HTTPS): Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure is a secure protocol that protects the exchange of information between the website and its users from third parties. Search engines prioritize and trust websites that are secured with HTTPS.

Technical SEO is one of the key factors in achieving success in search engine rankings.

To summarize, Website SEO optimization not only attracts organic visitors but is also more cost-effective than ongoing expensive advertising. Striking the right balance between on-site and off-site optimization is crucial to achieving a top spot on search engine results pages.

Remember: A website without SEO is like opening the best store in the desert — where even the wind can't find you.
